If you know me, or if you have spent any time in the clinic, you will know that I am a very big fan of doTERRA essential oils.
One of the ways to purchase doTERRA’s essential oils is through a wholesale club membership that works much the same way as a Sam’s or Costco account. You pay a small annual fee ($35 first year, $25 thereafter) and you get 25% off everything while you’re a member.
I’ve noticed over the years that many of the same questions pop up about the membership, so I thought I would share them here in case you’ve had the same questions too.
Why I chose doTERRA
Two very straightforward reasons:
First, they are the most tested brand and they don’t cut corners.
I use essential oils for myself and my patients therapeutically for the health benefits, so it really matters to me to know the oils are not adulterated in any way. doTERRA goes above and beyond the basic GC/MS testing – I have personally toured their facilities, seen their quality control lab, and watched examples of the testing process.
Second, they take very good care of the local farmers and communities where the plants are grown and teach sustainable environmental practices so the plants aren’t overharvested.
They do not create large-scale commercial farms that can shut down small-scale farmers. They take care of small farming communities all over the world by paying fair market prices for the oils and supporting them by helping to fulfill needs like building wells, schools, and health clinics.
Myth #1: I only say good things about doTERRA because I make money off the oils.
Let’s get this one out of the way, because I’ve had a couple of people say this to me before as if earning money is a bad thing. Full disclosure – yes, I do earn commission from the sale of doTERRA essential oils.
Here’s the thing – I would be earning money in some way with ANY essential oil brand I work with. My clinic is a business too – I offer services and products that I believe in, from which I earn income to then pay my bills, my staff, and myself.
But I CHOOSE the doTERRA brand because through my research and experience, no other brand even comes close to their quality and integrity.
Myth #2: You have buy monthly minimums, right?
Not at all! A lot of people mistakenly assume you’ll be required to order each and every month. Nope. To maintain your wholesale club membership, you only need to make one purchase a YEAR. Very easy.
There is a monthly option available to those who want to get bonus points back in product credit, like a frequent flyer program, but it is never mandatory. You get to choose what works best for you.
Myth #3: You have to sell oils to be a member.
Not at all. Most people just love using the oils for themselves and their families, and love getting them at a 25% discount.
Myth #4: The only way you can purchase doTERRA oils is to become a wholesale member.
Also not true. doTERRA has the most flexible purchase options. You absolutely can order through my shop site whenever you need without having to join the wholesale club.
If you order 3 or more bottles of oil in a year’s time, the wholesale club membership would pay for itself and would make sense so you get the 25% discount. But if that’s not for you, you can simply order what you need when you need it – click on my site and then click Shop at the top.
Myth #5: If you sign up for a wholesale club membership, I’m going to pester you all the time.
You know what I’m talking about – we’ve all been there, haven’t we? Someone once asked you if you wanted to purchase their products or host a party, and now you go down a different aisle in the grocery store just to avoid them in case they bring it up again.
I love to teach and I enjoy being of service to my members when and IF they need. What I do:
I offer optional classes on essential oil topics – which we are now starting up as zoom classes for the time being. These are announced through my newsletter.
I send out one to three newsletters a month on a variety of topics. You can choose to unsubscribe at any time.
I offer a free, optional wellness consult to my members.
I am available by email, phone, and Facebook for essential oil questions during business hours.
I reach out to my members individually once or twice a year to check in, or never if that’s what they prefer.
All optional. No pressure, no pestering.
Myth #6: You have to buy a huge, expensive kit to become a wholesale member.
Two options:
Enrollment Kits: there are about 6 different enrollment starter kits that you could choose from with a wide range of price points. The perk is that they waive the $35 first-year membership fee and they start you off with the most loved items.
One item + $35 membership fee: you can choose just to buy individual items and pay the $35 first-year membership fee. Easy peasy.
