Spotlight on Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense is known as the King of Oils. A saying that you’ll hear a lot is…
“When in doubt, go with Frank.”
What does that mean exactly?
Frankincense essential oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia tree.
Because the components in the oil contain ingredients from four major natural chemical families, it can benefit a wide variety of systems in the body compared to an oil that only has ingredients from one major chemical family.
That’s why you’ll see benefits to Frankincense that can vary from mood calming to skin soothing and beyond.
Although these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA, Frankincense is widely known to benefit the health of your cardiovascular system, lungs, digestion, joints, muscles, and urinary tract, as well as boosting the immune system.
doTERRA’s Frankincense oil is actually a blend of oil from four different Boswellia species (boswellia carterii, sacra, papyrifera, and frereana) which gives it a very unique profile and amazing aroma.
They work closely with the local harvesters through their Co-Impact Sourcing in order to support the harvesters in being able to take care of the trees and preventing overharvesting.
Be careful about adulterated Frankincense.
Frankincense is costly to produce which makes it prone to being adulterated by unethical aromatherapy practices. It is commonly cut with synthetic components or a different oil altogether so that suppliers can increase their amount.
Another cheat is when the distiller uses alcohol or a chemical solvent to extract the oil from the resin to quicken up the process but unfortunately ruining the quality. Proper therapeutic Frankincense needs to be steam distilled for a long time.
When it comes to the precious essential oils like Frankincense, if the price is too good to be true, it must be a fake oil.
Here are three easy things you can do with Frankincense.
1. My current favorite bedtime diffuser blend is:
2 drops doTERRA Frankincense
2 drops doTERRA Lavender
2 drops doTERRA Tangerine
2. Frankincense is great for skin health.
When I’m applying moisturizer, I put a pump of cream onto my hand first, then add a drop of Frankincense, then use it for a light massage on my face.
I prefer evening, but you could do this morning or evening. In this case, the moisturizer acts like a carrier oil so you don’t need to dilute it with any other carrier like fractionated coconut oil.
3. This DIY recipe for Razor Relief Serum was created for guys to soothe sensitive razor bumps, but “frank-ly” I think it’s a great serum for men or women because it would be just as soothing on the legs.
Frankincense is an enhancer.
Simply, that means Frankincense oil can enhance the benefits of other oils that it combines with. Frankincense blends very well with citrus oils, lavender, cypress, rose, and clary sage. Click here for more ideas.
Do you need Frank?
Because it is such a powerhouse, doTERRA Frankincense is one oil I recommend keeping on hand at all times.
It can be ordered in the 15mL bottle of pure oil (most flexibility) or in the 10mL Touch roll-on that comes pre-diluted with fractionated coconut oil ready for topical use.
