How to make Essential Oil Stock Bottles

Essential oil bottle

What is a stock bottle?

Stock bottles are blends of 3 to 5 different essential oils that can be used together for different ailments.

Why are stock bottles useful?

Stock bottles are useful when you want to use only a drop or two but your recipe calls for 3+ different oils.

They are also a time-saver.  If you regularly use a blend of more than 2 oils, this will save so much time not having to open each individual bottle every time.

You can make stock bottles for internal, diffuser, or topical blends.

I recommend using a 5mL bottle for stock. You don’t want to make more than you’ll use in a reasonable amount of time as oils do have expiration dates. And stock bottles don’t use carrier oils, so it’ll use up a lot of your original bottle quickly if you try to make a 15mL stock bottle.

Internal blends:

Using a veggie capsule is the safest way to get an internal blend straight to the stomach, bypassing the throat.

Only put 1 or 2 drops in the veggie capsule. It will look very empty but remember, oils are potent – a little goes a long way.

CAUTION: Only use oils for internal blends that have been marked on the bottle as safe for internal use.  For doTERRA oils, the quick way to tell is the bottle will have a Supplement Facts label on it.  If you don’t see this label, do NOT use it internally.

FLOOM: equal number of drops of each (maybe start 10 each) – Frankincense, Lemon, On Guard, Oregano and Melaleuca (Tea Tree)
Use when feeling under the weather.*

Achy: 20 drops of Copaiba, 15 drops of Frankincense, 5 drops of Black Pepper
Use for occasional muscle discomforts.*

Digestion: 5 drops of Cardamom, 15 drops of Ginger, 15 drops of Wild Orange, 5 drops of Celery Seed
Use for occasional GI upsets.*

Diffuser blends:

Any combination you enjoy can be used for diffuser blends.  After you make the stock bottle, use 4 to 8 drops in your diffuser depending on the size of your room.

Energizing recipe: 15 drops each of Spanish Sage, Cypress, and Ylang Ylang

Calming recipe: 20 drops of Tangerine, 15 drops of Bergamot, and 5 drops of Vetiver

Steam blend

To use a steam blend (do NOT drink this) for your sinuses, use 1 drop in a steaming mug of hot water, cover your head and face with a towel over the mug and breathe in deeply. Caution: if the water is too hot or if the oil blend is too strong, remove the towel to avoid burning your skin or irritating your eyes.

Steam recipe: 15 drops of Eucalyptus, 15 Lime, 5 Tea Tree (Melaleuca), and 5 Tulsi.
